Based on the bonding and peeling characteristics between cover tape and carrier tape, cover tapes are generally classified into three types: Heat Activated Adhesive (HAA), Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA), and Universal Cover Tape (UCT).
1. Heat Activated Adhesive (HAA)
Sealing requires the sealing machine to apply specific temperature and pressure to melt the hot melt adhesive and bond it to the carrier tape. Its characteristic is that it is non-sticky at room temperature and only becomes sticky when heated. Therefore, it is very convenient for storage and transportation and is less susceptible to environmental dust.
2. Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA)
Commonly known as "Cold Seal Tape", sealing requires only continuous pressure without heating. Both sides are sticky at room temperature (similar to adhesive tape). The advantages are that it requires no preheating equipment and is simple to operate; the disadvantage is that it easily attracts dust from the air, requiring higher storage environment standards.
3. Universal Cover Tape (UCT)
To solve the problem of unstable peel force caused by traditional glue aging due to temperature, UCT was created. It uses precision machining to cut two deep grooves in the cover tape base film. When peeling, the tape tears along the grooves. The peel force is determined only by the groove depth and the mechanical strength of the film, independent of glue viscosity. This ensures extremely high peel force stability.
